Start with a clean and dry 2 liter bottle. You will need a sharp knife or a hot wire to carefully cut or melt holes in the bottle. Leave the cap on the bottle. Place the 2 liter bottle into the BuzzKuv™ wire hanger. Use a marker to mark where your feeding port holes need to be. Place several feeding port holes about 1" above the wire rings of your hanger between the decorations, depending on your BuzzKuv™ design. This will work with all of our BuzzKuv™ wire designs. The feeding port holes need to be about 1/2" wide x 1" long for sunflower seeds and 1/8" wide x 1/4" long for nyjer seed.

Remove the 2 liter bottle from the BuzzKuv™ wire hanger. Begin carefully cutting or melting your feeding ports. When cutting the feeding port holes for sunflower seeds cut them in a U shape. After cutting your U shape, cut off half of the extra flap, then fold the remainder of the flap up inside the bottle. This will help to keep the seeds from falling out. Nyjer seed you will only need to cut or burn several small feeding port holes into the bottle.

Doweling is an option for a perch, but is not needed because the birds will use the BuzzKuv™ wire hanger to cling to. If you do decide that a perch would be a nice option for your feathered friends, simply cut or burn 2 small holes in the bottle approximately 1" to an 1 1/2" below the feeding ports on each side. An ice pick works great for making these holes. Make sure that each hole is cut directly across from each other on each side of the bottle. Slip the doweling or a small tree branch straight through, leaving approximately 1 1/2" to 2" on the outside of the bottle. If you do use doweling make sure you place the dowel through the 2 liter bottle while in the BuzzKuv™ wire hanger. The bottle will not come back out of the hanger unless you remove the dowel. You will not need to take your bottle out of the hanger again though, because you will simply fill it from the bottom.

Remove the cap. Fill the bottle with your choice of bird feed. Replace the cap. Hang and enjoy! You now have a very functional and beautiful bird feeder made from a plastic 2 liter bottle. The birds will love you for it, and you are helping their environment by recycling.
